Faculty Advisor/Student Mentor Programs
Issue
The results of recent assessment surveys and focus groups indicate that the quality and quantity of faculty advisor-student and student mentor-student interactions need to be increased to establish an effective program.
Resolution
This issue is being addressed by the development of a faculty advisor form to be signed by the faculty member and students and by providing incentives to faculty for participating with their advisees. Further, discussion is being had to create scheduled meetings with advisees. Regarding the Student Mentor Programs, plans are being prepared to better train student mentors, create scheduled interactions and use the information provided from survey forms as required information to be addressed by advisors.
SAO Programs, Services & Activities Awareness
Issue
The results of recent focus groups indicated that students are not fully advised of the services, activities and programs offered by the Student Affairs Office.
Resolution
The SAO developed the Student Affairs Office Resource and Contact Guide and expanded the University website. The expansion includes the SAO mission, services offered, the ability to request a tutor, transcript or grade report online, the tutoring session schedule, a suggestion box section and other events and programs offered by the SAO. The SAO link on the University’s website will eventually serve as a portal for students to retrieve important information about services and programs to promote their learning and enhance their development as professionals.
