On January 30, 2008, nine students from the University of Appalachia College of Pharmacy participated in Legislative Day at the Virginia General Assembly, which was sponsored by the Virginia Pharmacists Association (VPhA). This annual event consisted of an information session where students and pharmacists were provided with information on advocacy and the legislative process, as well as a summary of the proposed legislation supported or opposed by VPhA. The event also included a health fair in which students performed blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes screenings for all legislators and staff of the General Assembly Building. Students representing UACP were selected by the school’s faculty. The students attending were Eural Viers, Derek Webb and David Elefterion from the Class of 2008; Noella Mbah, Jennifer Hasis and Gavin Counts from the Class of 2009; and Saumil Vaghela, Megan Metivier and Adriann Deguzman from the Class of 2010. |
