Susan L. Mayhew

Susan MayhewSusan L. Mayhew is the Associate Dean of Pharmacy Practice for the University of Appalachia College of Pharmacy. She completed her Pre-Pharmacy coursework at East Tennessee State University, then attended the University of Tennessee, earning her PharmD degree in 1993. Dr. Mayhew completed residency training specializing in nutrition support at the University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore, Maryland.

Prior to joining the University of Appalachia, Dr. Mayhew was the Pharmacy Education Coordinator, Pharmacy Residency Programs Coordinator, and Nutrition Support Specialist at Columbus Regional Healthcare System in Columbus, Georgia. She served as an administrator, clinician, and educator for the Pharmacy Department for over a decade. Dr. Mayhew held faculty/preceptor appointments from the University of Georgia, Mercer University, and Auburn University Schools of Pharmacy, and served as the primary liaison between these universities and Columbus Regional - coordinating over 200 advanced practice experiences for students annually. As Residency Programs Coordinator, Dr. Mayhew was instrumental in expanding the pharmacy residency program at Columbus Regional to offer the largest pharmacy residency training program in the State of Georgia. Dr. Mayhew developed and coordinated a pharmacy-managed nutrition support service encompassing both pediatric and adult patients, and established one of the few Nutrition Support Residencies in the country. She is a Board Certified Nutrition Support Pharmacist and frequently lectures locally, regionally, and nationally on nutrition-related topics. Dr. Mayhew was recently awarded for her sustained commitment to pharmacy education and practice excellence by being recognized as a Fellow of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (FASHP).

Dr. Mayhew is active in state, regional, and national pharmacy organizations. She has held several leadership roles within the Georgia Society of Health-System Pharmacists (GSHP), and was recently awarded “Outstanding Committee Chairperson” for her work on the GSHP Education Committee. Currently, Dr. Mayhew serves as Co-Chair of the GSHP Education and Programming Committee and Chairs the Southeastern Residency Conference Steering Committee for 2006. On a national level, she has served as a residency programs surveyor for the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) for several years.
