Scott Cole is a native of Tazewell County but descends from some of the earliest pioneers of Russell, Tazewell, and Buchanan Counties. He graduated from Southwest Virginia Community College in 1980 and received the 2003 Distinguished Alumnus Award. He was accepted to the University of Richmond and graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He continued his studies in Biology at Virginia Commonwealth University for one year before relocating to Atlanta, Georgia, to attend Mercer University Southern School of Pharmacy. While at Mercer, he was recognized for high scholastic achievement from the Rho Chi Honor Society and for high standards of academic excellence from the National Dean’s List. He was also a member of Phi Delta Chi fraternity. Scott graduated with honors in 1987, earning a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.

Currently, he is a pharmacist and co-owner of Olde Virginia Pharmacy in Tazewell, Virginia. Professional organizations of which he is a member include the Virginia Pharmacists Association, the National Community Pharmacists Association, and the Association of Community Pharmacists.

Scott has served as a board member for the Tazewell Area Chamber of Commerce, Tazewell Young Life, the Tazewell Cemetery Association, the Tazewell County Free Press Editorial Board, American Heritage Prints, Ltd., Historic Crab Orchard Museum, and the Virginia Division Sons of Confederate Veterans.

He has taken great interest in the preservation of Southwest Virginia history and heritage. He wrote the 34th Battalion Virginia Cavalry, which was published in 1993 as an addition to the Virginia Regimental Histories Series. Scott has also been active restoring his antebellum home, Ben Bolt. Ben Bolt is distinguished for serving as headquarters for two Confederate Generals and was raided twice by Federal Troops. It is also reputed to be the site Dr. Thomas Dunn English penned his internationally renowned poem of the same name. In 2000, Scott was presented the Jefferson Davis Medal by the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Scott has one daughter, Aimee, who is a member of the Class of 2008 at the Appalachian School of Law.
