Michael “Mickey” McGlothlin is an attorney based in Grundy, Virginia, and the Chair of the Board of Trustees at the University of Appalachia. A native and lifelong resident of Buchanan County, he is a graduate of Garden High School, which now serves as the newly renovated main campus for the University of Appalachia. He earned a BA degree from the University of Virginia, and a JD degree from the Marshall Wythe School of Law of the College of William and Mary. He passed the bar exam in Virginia in 1977. He has served as Commonwealth Attorney for Buchanan County, presently serves as the county attorney, and is a charter member of the Board of Directors of New Peoples Bank, as well as maintaining a private law practice.
Mickey is involved in many local and regional organizations. He is a member and past President of the Grundy Kiwanis Club, and was Kiwanian of the year in 1994-1995. He was a member of the Great Southwest Group Home Commission, and served as Vice-Chair. He served as Chair of the Breaks District of the Sequoyah Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He has also served on the Virginia Board of Forestry, and has coached basketball and baseball in Grundy.
Mickey has been involved in higher education in Southwest Virginia since 1985. He is a longtime member of the College Board of the University of Virginia College at Wise, and a member and current Treasurer of the Board of Trustees of the Appalachian School of Law.
Mickey is married to Sandra Leigh McGlothlin, and has three children: Alex, Aaron, and Asher.
