Dr. Joyce V. Loyed is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Appalachia College of Pharmacy. Her clinical practice site is at the Salem Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Salem, Virginia, in primary care. She provides pharmacotherapy services focusing on hypertension, diabetes and lipid management. Dr. Loyed’s professional areas of interest include anticoagulation, hyperlipidemia, patient education, and student precepting.
Dr. Loyed received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, in 2000. She then completed a Specialty Residency in Primary Care at the Malcolm Randall Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida in 2001. Dr. Loyed then went on to practice as a clinical pharmacist and Anticoagulation Clinic Coordinator at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Alabama for five years. She has been a Certified Anticoagulation Care Provider since 2002. In 2006, Dr. Loyed joined the faculty at Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and at the University of Alabama-Birmingham School of Medicine, Huntsville Campus. Dr. Loyed then joined UACP’s faculty in August 2007.
Dr. Loyed is a member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. She has been on the Speaker’s Bureau for Roche Diagnostics in the Systematic Anticoagulation Management Program.
Dr. Loyed currently resides in Roanoke, Virginia and enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons. She also enjoys reading, movies, scrapbooking, and traveling.
