Dr. Clint Sutherland is a Buchanan County native, and a graduate of Grundy High School. He earned his BS and PharmD from Mercer University in Atlanta, Georgia. He returned to Grundy, Virginia, where he served as hospital pharmacist at Buchanan General Hospital and worked as a community pharmacist. He then returned to school, attending Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, and earning his MD. He then completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Marshall, serving as Chief Medical Resident. He is currently a staff physician at Buchanan General Hospital in Grundy, where he serves as Chief of Staff, and Medical Director for Diabetes Education and Outpatient Oncology.
Dr. Sutherland was a member of the Rho Chi Pharmaceutical Honor Society while attending Mercer University, and was a member of the Phi Delta Chi Pharmaceutical fraternity. He also received the John Alton McLain Drug Abuse Education Award, and won the Sanoz Award for the best research paper during the PharmD Year, for a paper entitled The Effects of Two Gastric Acidifying Agents on the Pharmacokinetics of Ketotonazole. While attending Marshall University, Dr. Sutherland was a recipient of the Marshall University Department of Medicine Award for Outstanding Student in Cardiology. He is currently a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
Dr. Sutherland has two publications involving drug-induced nephrotoxicity. Dr. Sutherland is a piper with the Abingdon Highlanders Pipe and Drum Corps, and he and his wife Faith have a daughter, Ali.
