Charles R. King

Charles KingCharles R. King is a native of Fort Pierce, Florida and a graduate of the University of Florida (B.S., M.Ed., Ed.D.). He came to Richlands in 1967 to serve as the founding president of Southwest Virginia Community College (SVCC), after having served two years as Dean of Instruction at Southeastern Community College in Whiteville, North Carolina, and five years as a teacher in the Florida public school system.

During his tenure as president of SVCC, Dr. King has remained passionate with regard to providing quality higher education opportunities for all citizens of the community college’s service region (Buchanan, Dickenson [partial], Russell and Tazewell Counties) and is committed to the continued implementation and development of a quality of life second to none for the southwest Virginia region.

Dr. King and his wife, Mary, reside in Belfast (Russell County), and have four children, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
