Dr. Cherie H. Howard is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Appalachia College of Pharmacy. Her clinical inpatient acute care setting is at the Salem Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Salem, Virginia, with a primary focus in Internal Medicine.
Dr. Howard is a native of Columbus, Georgia. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Fort Valley State University, located in Fort Valley, Georgia, where she graduated with honors. Dr. Howard earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree at Mercer University Southern School of Pharmacy, located in Atlanta, Georgia, in May 2004. In June 2005, she completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at Columbus Regional Healthcare System in Columbus, Georgia.
Dr. Howard has completed several academia internships. She has worked with AstraZeneca Pharmaceutical Corporation, in the Medical Marketing Communications Department, Exxon Exploration Corporation, Research Department, and the United States Geological Survey. Dr. Howard has participated in research concerning JCAHO quality core measures; where the primary focus was increasing the use of ACE inhibitors in the treatment of heart failure. Dr. Howard has a great interest in Internal Medicine, Oncology, and Geriatrics. She also enjoys writing, and has published articles concerning supportive care and cancer health related topics.
Dr. Howard is actively involved in her community, where she enjoys volunteering for the Red Cross Blood Drive, Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, and Educational Tutorial Programs. In her spare time, Dr. Howard enjoys traveling, playing the piano and violin, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends.
